Can't use numeric keypad

For some reason I can't use any keys of the numeric keypad to enter numbers, and when I press 0 sometimes it locks up the whole system and I have to relaunch Finder to get things back to normal. Anyone have an idea about what I could do?

You didn't turn on 'Mouse Keys' in System Preferences > Universal Access, by any chance?

Locks the whole system as in not even the mouse pointer moves? That's highly suspect.
