Last night I installed 10.3 X Panther on my iBook clamshell and it completely wiped out OS 9. I found out when I tried to play a software that will only run on 9.
I don't have any of my discs. I am going to try and get one through eBay (which one would be best? Any version of 9 should be OK?) I am wondering if I install the 9 will it do the same thing and wipe out 10.3? Can I even run 10.3 and 9 at the same time (stupid question, because my other iBook did)?
On another forum someone told me I would have to partition my hard drive? Is this true? They also said they weren't sure, so I don't want to really listen to them.
Basically I just want to run both!
Thank you!

Sounds like classic got broken somehow during the upgrade. You certainly can have OS X and OS 9 installed on the same partition.
Just out of curiosity, does "System Folder" still exist on your hard disk? If you go to Startup Disk in System Preferences, what are your choices?

As long as you don't choose to erase the disk in the OS 9 installer, it won't wipe your 10.3 system, no.

If he has a backup or copy of his OS 9 system folder and all his OS 9 stuff, can't he just drag and drop copy it back onto his 10.3 volume and then won't it work?

Yes. In fact if all he wants is Classic, any MacOS 9.1 or newer system folder from any source will work.
