So, I was trying to get Xlink Kai to run and to do that I need to run as root. In doing so I inadvertently set me root password to nothing. The tutorials I've followed haven't been able to change it, what do I do?

Did you try booting from your original Installation CD? If you are running 10.4 pop in the CD (which is really a DVD!) boot with the letter "C" held down until you see the apple logo. It will launch the Installer, but be not afraid. Choose your language, click on Utilities in the menu bar and go down to reset password. One of your choices will be "root". I am curious, how did you manage to let the machine accept no password?!

Well, following How to Enable the "root" Account on Mac OS X I kind of had to. But, unfortunately, I'm running Panther not Tiger. So, I don't exactly have an installation CD, because this came pre-installed on my Mac. The Disks I have are "Software Install and Restore" 1 of 2 and 2 of 2.

I'm sorry, the first system restore worked. I've got a root password now, thanks for the quick help!
