Hey guys.

I use dashboard quite a bit, and also do quite a bit of booting between Windows Vista and Mac OS X. When I boot into Mac OS X, I'll use it for a bit, then I'll need to access dashboard for something. It depends. However, when I activate dashboard, it takes a good 20+ seconds to get all the widgets loaded, at which point the computer becomes unresponsive. I was wondering if there was any way to force this process on login? I'd rather wait the time there than in the middle of me doing something.

From what I understand, this used to be the default way o doing things, but was changed in 10.4.3 (or so) to help with boot times.

Is there any way to get that back?

Thanks.

In the Accounts preference pane, go to the Login Items tab and add the Dashboard application to the list of programs to start at login.

Yeah, but that turns on dashboard and blocks my desktop. I was hoping that there was some way to start it up without the overlay coming down.

And before you ask, yes, I checked "Hide"

Come on. How hard is it to click to get rid of the dashboard?

If you must, there has to be a way to write yourself an Applescript application that starts the dashboard and then activates the Finder. Put that application in your list of Login Items.

There is a program, I forget the name, that automatically starts the dashboard in the background, without you having to do it.

I've just gotten into the habit of double-tapping F12 after a reboot (brings the dashboard to the front, then dismisses it, but continues to load it in the background), but chabig's solution looks better. Do that instead!

The program is not bad. i wish it didn't display it's logo every boot, but I think I'll live.

To be honest, i was hoping for some terminal command or something that might make dashboard AutoStart in the background without every appearing at all.

But, I suppose this will do.

Maybe Leopard will change the way dashboard loads.
