Is there a way to tell Mac OS X to always use a certain printer when using a particular app, or to prevent a specific application from using a certain printer (at least by default)?

Perhaps with a third party utility but not out of the box.

I would really love a way for OS X to set the default printer based on my location (which network I am logged into).
I have one printer at home. When I am on my home network, I ALWAYS want that as my default printer.
I have three at work, when I am on the work network, I want the one closest to my desk as the default. At the moment, it sees to be the last used that is the default, meaning that first thing in the morning, and when I get home from work, the wrong printer is nearly always selected. Dumb. OSX should figure out that some printers are associated with some networks.

The classic Location Manager was much more flexible than what we have in OS X. It's too bad Apple still hasn't duplicated certain functionality.

Anybody know Cocoa programming and has time on his/her hands? :-) Actually, I could probably set up something with AppleScript, but it's the automaticity portion of it that's the trickiest.

Hmmm... You'd think that there would be a way for it to figure out that certain resources are network specific.

Location X — The Power of X, to Go! claims to be a replacement for Location Manager.

That looks great. Shame Apple can't just build that in.
