Hi guys,

I got the HD in my iBook replaced and using the migration assistant it transfered alot of stuff off the old HD and onto the new one inside the iBook.

Being reasonably new to Macs are there any folders I can remove from the old HD to free up space to use it as an external HD? It's only 40Gb but in an external enclosure it would be ok for photos.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense

so you are using the new internal hard drive as your start up disk right? if so then your old hard drive can be completely wiped and reformatted to maximise the amount of space. you dont need any of the files on it.

Yeah the HD is up and running with Tiger on it and has been used for the last 2 weeks. I used the migration assistant to transfer the data over.

So I just go ahead and wipe the drive?

If you are confident you got what you need (applications, personal files/home folder) onto the new HD, go ahead and wipe it clean. I personally would wait for a bit longer just to make sure.

Get an app like SuperDuper to make backups and eventually put your old HD to good use.

Have fun.
