I am aware of how to share printers through the System Preferences, but I have noticed that when the printer shared is not turned on the Macs that are shared with it, quit unexpectedly with every app that is opened. Is there a fix to this?

Never mind. Figured this one out myself. The reason the Macs were freezing up was that the printer was connected directly by USB to one of the Macs. I put that Mac to sleep while the other one was looking for the printer. Instead of using Bonjour for sharing, I have chosen to use an AirPort Express because the users on the network can access it more easily without having the printer connected to a Mac (which was how Bonjour works).
