Lately (for the last 2 days) every time I open my documents, the window opens, nothing shows up in it, and I get the spinning wheel of death for an infinite amount of time/until I restart my computer. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Or does anyone know a way I could delete files from My Documents without actually having to open it up?

Is that a Windows question? If so you should maybe ask it in the Alternative Operating System question.
If not, what program are you opening these files with? Did you run Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" to see whether the drive is all right?

AFAIK, Windows doesn't have a spinning wheel of death but nor does OS X have a 'My Documents' folder.

I think it's pretty easy for a switcher to confuse his "Documents" folder with "My Documents".

Yeah, I just meant "Documents". I've been using Mac's for 3 years it's just a habit to call it "My Documents". I ended up just deleting the Documents folder, because after going through it in my head, I decided there wasn't really anything in there which I couldn't live without. Although, I'm sure a month from now I'm gonna realize I deleted some crucial file and freak out, but until then: problem... solved?

Run Disk Utility and have it Verify your hard drive (not just the permissions).
There's likely some directory damage.
If so, restart your Mac from the Install Disc 1 that came with it and run Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu. Keep running "Repair disk" until it shows no more errors twice in a row.
