Yes, I'm familiar with the capabilities of HFS+-formatted drives, such as how they are designed to do on-the-fly file-swapping to avoid the kind of fragmentation errors that plague NTFS-formatted Windows drives, but is there any maintenance above and beyond that offered by programs such as Onyx?
When trying to install Boot Camp, I get the error "The Disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved," which includes a note suggesting I backup all pertinent data and reformat my hard drive. Needless to say, my desire to use Windows is not so strong that I would put forth the time and stress to do something so radical, yet, if there is a way to optimize my drive in order to get it to work, I would gladly jump at the opportunity.
EDIT:
A newb at these forums (but not forums in general), I mad the realization that the case could be made to put this in the Alternative Operating Systems forum. That being said, since this also discusses OS X maintenance, it does also have a home in here I hope. Regardless, pardon my oversight in choosing a relevant forum for my inquiry.
I have tried a number of things, such as booting with my OS X CDs and repairing my drive (which did, actually, apparently fix a few errors), clearing out space (from 13 GB to now 35 GB), and running OnyX.

I'm going to say that this should be here-for the time being, anyway. There are some issues to worry about when talking about optimizing a drive with both HFS+ and NTFS partitions; OS X can't write to NTFS natively, and Windows can't even SEE an HFS+ partition, so anything that messes with the partitions at the sector or lower level must be pretty special software. I'm not personally aware of any tool that can safely handle both kinds of partitions.

I got this error too. I used idrag to defrag my drive. It wasn't actually that fragmented, but just enough that it couldn't allocate 20 gigs of free space. Once you do that, you will probably have to run disk utility on your drive, because mine had some errors. Then bootcamp partitioned fine.

You have to run an actual disk defragementer to fix this.
