i just got a new mac pro and tried putting a external harddrive that i had setup/partioned and used on my mac book pro but when i get to a specific file, any mp3 mpeg anything it crashes the finder. when i switched it back to my macbook pro it plugs in fine and works without a problem, no crashing. i have 10.4.9 on it. i did a user/applications target disk transfer upon OS install from my macbook pro so maybe some pref. files or something is causing issues.

since the post i have ran apple disk utility and disk warrior 4.0 (not booted) and both repaired different errors. also i have made a new user and still the same issue.

Have you installed e.g. a contextual menu item on the Mac pro that isn't present on the MBP? Try disabling your contextual menu items by moving them to the desktop and restarting. Does that help?
