I have 2 admin accounts on this iMac. One of them ( the first account to be created on the machine) asks me to sign this box ( and sometimes 2 or 3 others) with the OLD PASSWORD, not the one that is currently set to login to the account. But the previous one. I'm not sure if it is significant information but is also the original password for the account.

Then, whenever I sync .Mac it asks for this box to be signed again with the previous password, as above ?? I have no idea what this is about. Can anyone help

Open Keychain Access (in the /Applications/Utilities folder). Open the Preferences for the application and select the two options below if they aren't already selected:

Then run a repair operation in Keychain First Aid (select it from the Keychain Access menu - it is just below the Preferences menu item - or press command-option-A).

Thank you - that has fixed the first problem. Here's what the verification logged:

However there is still a problem with syncing, it isn't accepting my .Mac password, the Login password or the original password for the account!!

Assuming that you know all the passwords that you need, you could delete the passwords from the keychain and then log in to these places and click the button to save them in the keychain. This should put the right password in the keychain.

I don't use the keychain any more. For unimportant sites, like this one, I just keep myself logged in, and for important ones, I enter the password.

Perhaps you are misunderstanding this issue. The image displayed in my last post only shows when syncing .Mac and doesn't accept any of my passwords. (I am trying my .Mac, login and previous login passwords.)

So when you are prompted for the pw for John Bassi's Computer, you manually type what you think is the correct password? If so, it is probably not a keychain issue. I'm wondering if this is EITHER an old account that was registered to sync with .MAC or this is the main admin user ID that is needed to do any kind of sync.

1) Are you currently able to log into your computer under the "John Bassi" user ID (i.e. is the user ID still valid)?

2) Is (or was) "John Bassi" one of the admin ID's?

3) Do you know what a "root" password is (in general), and do you know the root password for your computer? (this might be irrelevant)

If you don't know which user ID is "John Bassi", you can try two things:
a) look in the Accounts pain in System Preferences (in Applications->Utilities),
b) you can open Net Info Manager (in Applications->Utilities), select "users" in the second column, then click once on each of the entries on the right and read the junk at the bottom next to the line for "realname" to find one that says "John Bassi".
