I get this occasionally. I notice my mac running drastically slow and just lagging overall, then I go to activity monitor to see what's eating all my cpu and it turns out it's the finder. It basically starts taking up any unused cpu. I'm thinking what the hell is going on.

This happens when I haven't restarted my mac in a while. Restarting it fixes the problem but eventually it'll happen again. It's like it gets tired or something and needs more juice to keep going.

Anyone know what this is all about and what to do about it? Because theoretically this shouldn't happen right? I mean I'm not doing anything extrenous with the finder. Why would it be eating so much cpu?

The Finder is a really weak part of OS X, and I don't mean this lightly.

Next time, you could try force quitting the Finder though... It will save you from having to restart your computer.

Do you have any hacks installed? TONS of files on the desktop?

Rarely does the Finder mem leak on my computer.
