panic (cpu 0 caller 0x002E5668).. unable to find driver for this platform: &quot owermac 8,1".

iMac G5 20" (rev A), running 10.4.8)

The system interrupts booting when the task bar starts (no blue progressing bar).

I have tried booting from the iMac G5 install CD I, it doesn't work, a kermel panic occurs. I can reinitiate though from my external HDD running 10.4.8, which is good news, i think.

Problem started when I run software update (there was last iTunes update and I thing some late system upgrade, may be). This happened around 2 months ago (I've been out of home, I'm just back) Anyhow, I rebooted and the system interrupts booting when the task bar a ears (no blue progre ing bar).

Now I can see the internal HDD, I just used utilities to repair permissions (a bunch of things were modified), but not luck.

any ideas what got screwed up?

thanks

I just tried to install an iPod shuffle on our Core Duo Mac Mini and hada very similar occurence. Same message with different numbers and a different platform - "ACPI"

It won't boot beyond this window.

I tried creating a firmware restoration CD on my other MAC and booting with it on the MAC MINI, but it didn't do anything.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks
