Ever since I bought my 2.0GHz MacBook a few weeks ago I've been having an issue with an odd bug, and today it cost about 4 gb worth of backup files on my external.
It's hard to describe, and I haven't been able to study it in depth, so bear with me, what I've noticed is that sometimes, when I'm in the process of moving a folder, deleting a folder, creating a folder, or some combination of these - the finder will behave erratically. On this particular occasion I wasn't doing much more than moving the folder around, and all of the sudden I realized that the folder in question was replaced by a "untitled folder"....the folder was empty, and what do you know, my external hard drive had an extra 4gb free of space.
Now for the erratic behavior I mentioned earlier. I tried clicking on the "untitled folder", poking it and draggin it around, and a few times the name kinda changed to show it's original name(!) and then it went back to "untitled folder" when I moved it again, as if the Finder realized it had made a mistake. (huh?)
So at this point I'm really frustrated because I've lost a lot of work, basically all that I've been doing today. I'm running a thorough scan using Data Rescue II on the hard drive...which will take another hour or so....and I decided to search for it using the Finder's search function, in case maybe I just "misplaced" the folder. Sure enough, it popped up where it was supposed to be under the search function, and now, again, I clicked on the folder to open it...drum roll....and the name reverts to "untitled folder"!! ahhhhh
Does ANYONE know what's going on??!

Should I wipe and reinstall the os?
