If i'm not mistaken when in a finder window, the view setting (list, icon, pane view) is independent of EACH folder, which I find frustrating, when I simply want to look at everything in an icon view, but when I click on something else in the sidebar it goes to that folders view that I previously had... Is there any way in Tiger to simply click on a view icon and have that be the default for every window I open or every folder I open up.... If not, I sure do hope Leopard has this, and from the looks of it, it does.

Try this:
Double click your hard drive, go up to View in the menu bar, down to View Options. Fixinate your viewing preferences and click All Windows.
