A friend of mine has a Macbook Pro Core Duo running 10.4.7. He has a problem now where whenever he is in the finder, if he double clicks on any icon, nothing happens. Folders, files, applications, hard drives, doesn't matter. Double click does nothing. He can hit Command-O and they will open, but not double click. I ran Disk Utility and Disk Warrior; both found minor issues that were repaired but the problem remains. I am betting some setting got changed inadvertently but I can't figure out what.

Any help appreciated.

Strange. At the very least, have him update to the latest OS X (10.4.10) and see if that helps.

Figured it out. In System Preferences, double-click speed for the trackpad was set to Fast. Setting it to the middle between fast and slow allowed for normal double-clicking speed to activate the files.

Some people don't want the audio popping problem or the problem where some apps think .10 is .1

He's not a fanatic like most of us. He bought the computer with 10.4.7 and hasn't done anything to it since.

I have the same problem and the System Preference fix cured it. Thanks
Its a hard hint to find and should be reclassified as "mouse click problem" Tiger or similar.
I think it applies to all versions of Tiger.
