Hi all,

I'm having a problem playing avi's on my macbook, and wondering if anyone here might have a solution. Basically when I import video from my digital camera, it either plays with no picture but with sound (in quicktime), or else it plays with picture but no sound (VLC Player). It is only video imported from the camera, as all my other videos etc play fine. When I watch the video on the camera it is fine re picture/sound.

Any ideas?

David.

It's very rare that VLC doesn't play something. You can try install Perian and then open the file with QuickTime to see if that helps.

You could install the DivX software bundle, its known to play a few formats other than video encoded in DivX. I second the notion of installing Perian, its the number one solution to alot of the problems faced by alot of people when it comes to Mac's

Third party codecs are like a taboo at Apple apparently because they only support there native Quicktime video formats.

Could you please hit cmd-i (info) while it's open in QT, and report what it says under "format"? As has been said, this is very unusual and I would like to know what codec is causing problems (and it might help us solve your problem).
