I have a imac with 10.4.10 installed, my cds are 10.4.8
After some problems and subsequent diagnosis, we were told by apple support that we need to reinstall the OS. Since my profile is very important, has all my settings, he suggested that we use archive in the reinstall.

When I bootup with my CD it reads "The software cannot be installed on this computer"

How can I do this; bypass this message, and then delete and re-install with my old profile.

I don't have a firewire drive, but I do have an external USB drive if needed.

You are probably trying to install 10.4 with some other machine's dvds; usually this doesn't work. Use the original discs that came with your system instead.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
