I'm running OS X Server 10.4.10 (the Universal Binary, though I haven't tested that yet). My login screen is "name and password", and the option to switch it over to 'List of users" is grayed out. Is there any way to get this back and reactivate it? A list of users would REALLY come in handy.
Thats odd, the img tag seems to be broken. Its in my post body but its not showing up. Anyway, heres a screen shot:

I'm sure there is a way to manually changed it with a defaults command, but Apple sets things this way because a list of users is less secure on a mission critical server. Not that it's my business to be telling you how to run your server.

Yeah the only feature of OS X Server I'm using is its Universal Binary-ness. I could really use my login window though. WIth lists that is.

Why is that the only reason you're using it? What benefit is that to you?

Because I can start the machine in firewire mode (T button) and boot both intel macs and ppc macs off of it. Wasn't the obvious from the very definition of a Universal Binary OS?

If you just want a Universal OS to boot from, than install it on some external drive that you occasionally use for that occasion. Why put it on a computer and try to use it all the time as a workstation with multiple users? OS X Server is not meant to be used as a client OS. Apple prevents many of their apps from installing on it.

I just tried what you're wanting to do and it didn't work. I installed OS X Server Universal on an iMac G5 and then booted an Intel CD iMac from the iMac G5 over TDM. It booted but promptly died when it reached the desktop. I don't think Tiger is quite ready for what you want. I hope you're an ADC member and just downloaded OS X Server Universal instead of spending a lot of money on it.
