Alright.. My Core Duo Mini with 1GB of ram is dogging pretty badly.. Ive had the same home folder going thats been on an external drive that just attaches with a symlink. It started its adventure being attached to a iMac G3 500 running 10.3.2, then to a G4 Sawtooth running 10.4.9 and now to the Mini running 10.4.10. this has been over a period of 3 years.. now would this cause the system to be horribly slow all the years ive used this drive and never reformatted.. the OS always booted off the system drive that i had it attached too

It's very possible that there's gunk in your home folder causing problems. Create a new user and test out the operations that are currently slow, and if they're faster you know that's your problem.
