I have recently acquired an indigo slot-loading iMac in extremely good condition (and at "free," you can't beat the price either) to use as a wired print and file server for my wireless network.

I have a HP LaserJet 1012 printer connected via USB to the iMac, with the HP printer drivers installed. The printer works with the iMac. I have the printer set to be shared via the OS 9 "USB Printer Sharing" control panel. There's a part of the help file that says that I have to make sure that the printer is shared over using TCP/IP as USB printers can't be shared over AppleTalk.

Any suggestions on what to check or try would be appreciated.

I looked into this for a client a while ago, and I'm pretty sure that mixed OS X/OS 9 printer sharing is impossible.

Thanks to the LPD server built into CUPS, you can share an OS X printer to OS 9 systems but not the other way around: Mac OS X: Sharing a printer with Mac OS 9 computers
