Ok, I'm ready to blow up right now. For some godly un-know reason 90% of the Mac's here at my Campus re-named this selves in the AD plugin. They all have their own names in AD for logging in, but today I noticed that for some reason something has caused them to ALL rename themselves to one computer name.
I have seen this before with the OS sharing name, but never with the AD plug'n. This now means that all the computers will not allow AD login and that I will have to go around one by one for a couple hundred computers just to change the name for the AD plug'n. This beats re-imaging seeing how we open our doors to the the new year in just over a weeks time.
Any ideas before I throw all these Mac's on the window :-)
Thanks,
Carter

It's messed because I've been running with AD logging for over two years and never had this issue before.

To rule out one thing, I have spent sometime with support from Faronics (Deep Freeze for Mac) and have pretty much ruled out DF being the issue as the program does not touch the AD plug'n

Weird. I am doing an AD authentication roll out at my place of employment. What version of OS X are you using? I know 10.3 had really flakey AD support, but 10.4 is really nice. When you go to bind the machines you input the Computer ID but at some point they get renamed? Might want to ask your AD admin folks about that. They can do this manually. Check the schema as well.

We are using 10.4.10
After I bind the computers to AD, I'm loging into AD to move the computers into their respected OU bins for that perticular lab.

Right. We also move the machines into a different OU container than what they originally bound to, but not getting the oddity you are.
Have you changed your AD schema in any weird way?

Just to be clear, all the macs now have the same Computer ID in the Active Directory section in Directory Access?
I've seen macs rename themselves DNS-wise, because of issues with DNS names. Maybe that's what's happening?

Think I have solved this. Believe this is a mess-up on my part. Think it's happen after I pushed out a few system settings and forgot to de-select the ad-plug'n and and re-wrote over the other computers and re-named them.
lol, this is what happens when one is getting stressed out and working 14 hour days for over two weeks to get a building up and running. As of right now, all appears to be going smooth now. I have only pulled out half of my hair :-) lol
Thanks all though. Hope I didn't waist too much of ya'll's time :-)
