Some of my applications, including Flash 8 Pro, Iconographer, Microsoft Office 2004, won't launch, they used to run perfectly. I recently discovered that in the Info panel they appear in kind as: Application (PowerPC). How could that be possible if I have an Intel processor and they used to run perfectly?

No, those apps didn't get converted to PowerPC. They were always PowerPC. As Big Mac pointed out, Rosetta lets you run PowerPC apps on Intel Macs. Sometimes Rosetta will crash. A reboot will generally cure it.

If you ran a tool like Monolingual that strips out PowerPC code from your system, then you'll be reinstalling.

Well I have rebooted like 50 times since then, it has been over a month. And I haven't used Monolingual. Any other way I can fix this?

If you see an error message in Console.app that appears while you try to open a PowerPC application and post it here that might help. Or make an Archive & Install.

No, there's no message. What's Archive & Install?

There was no message whatsoever in the Console? Or do you mean there's no message dialog appearing when you try to launch these apps?

There should be something in the Console. (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app)

RDG, you have to OPEN Console (it's in the Utilities folder under Applications) to see the messages. OS X doesn't flood you with messages the way Windows can. But either you have a problem with Rosetta, or there's something wrong with a number of your apps. I'm betting that Rosetta is giving you these problems.

...I know what the console is. I did open it and no messages were posted when I tried to launch Flash. I have an Intel iMac Core 2 Duo.

The only thing I want to do is erase everything and start again.

Try Archive & Install first.

Look if just Power-PC Applications are affected. If so, it’s likely only the Rosetta emulation is broken and there may be ways to fix that.

Just FYI: Archive & Install would have saved ALL your settings, data, e-mail, applications, etc., and just re-installed a completely fresh system.

That's why it was mentioned a half-dozen times, and that's why TETENAL linked to the info page on the process up above.

Next time you want to re-install, save yourself 9/10ths of the work.

Glad to see you got the problem solved, though!
