I'm trying to copy a Linux ISO from a CD onto my hard drive to install in VMWare Fusion, but everytime I attempt to copy it I get a Finder Error -50, I've tried using cp in Terminal, but that just makes a blank file.

Boot from your OS X install disc and run Disk Utility to repair permissions and check/repair the drive. That's a good place to start.
