hi all:

a friend of mine's MB briefly shows a "?" when starting up. it's only there for a second and the MB finds it's start-up disc and boots ok. disk utility SMART status is verified.

is this something she should be concerned about? if the "?" is a forewarning of things to come, it'd be good to fix now.

any thoughts?

Looks like its trying to boot from a volume that doesn't exist before finding your HD.

Goto prefs>>>Startup disk>>>> click MacOSX 10.X.XX on Macintosh HD and click restart.

most likely its what richwig83 suggested. Try that and let us know if that helps. There's always the tiny chance that its a sign of bad things to come, but first thing first... did richwig's suggestion help?


Also, in the future, the subject isn't to tell everyone wether or not you searched, its to give a subject of your post so people know if they should stop and read it. You could briefly mention at the beginning of your post that you already searched (sadly, b/c of those who get angry when people don't search, you have to do this), but there's no need to make the search clause your message subject.

I agree. That is what happened when the HD died on my LCII. I turned it on and was greeted by a flashing "?" I booted up using the disk utilities floppy and discovered no HD on the desktop. It could not find the startup disk
