hi all
running a imac 2g non-intel with the latest operating system. admittedly i only have 512ram running.
i am wondering what is the best utility or program to define program useage of memory?
for the last couple of weeks my mac appears slow and unresponsive. everything grinds to a halt in fact!
this seems to occur when lastfm is open and especially when lastfm is given an active window.
am i barking up the wrong tree with this hypothesis in terms of lastfm being the reason? or is this a common problem with the program?
i was thinking of some kind of clean up might be necessary but first step would be to navigate the memory useage!
thanks in advance for any opinions.

Activity Monitor. It's in your Applications > Utilities folder

I've seen iscrobbler lag, but I'm not sure if that's what you're using.
I'm not sure whether iStat offers a standalone but its a handy widget.

no, iscrobbler had not been working for me, i've been using the lastfm client. It really is odd as i seem to have residual lag after i close the program up.
i'll look for that widget when i get home thanks.

The culprit most likely is the lack of memory, 512 just does not cut it and computers will slow down with so little. Memory is so cheap, add another Gig, that should seriously spreed things up and keep them so.

mmm, thankyou both.
the ram thing makes sense...so i'll have to get on that no-brainer. i really am living in the past when it come to ram!
i will do a bit of a activity monitor and i was going to try out menu meters as well. i did some searching which suggested also looking into repair permissions.
i guess i haven't had these types of slowdowns since os8
