ive been expirimenting with single user mode and its been fun up the point where something goes wrong...
for example:

#(cd /var/db/netinfo; netinfod -s local)

when i type this in it just starts another line....help anyone?

Did you try running them as separate commands? how about this:
login root
then run the commands one at a time.
