Can't Restore My Desktop

I'm not sure what I did but somehow my desktop ended up a different file and now I can't restore the files back to my desktop.

Picture is really bad, help please.

That isn't your Desktop. That's just a folder called "Desktop" that's created by certain installers. I see that pop up from time to time on Macs I administer. My guess it's from installers using VISE technology. You can get get rid of it. Your Desktop is within your Home folder.

If I get rid of it then all of my files and folders on the desktop gets deleted with it

It isn't your Desktop. Your Desktop is at /Users/yourusername/Desktop/. The folder you took a picture of is a folder that was created by a poorly created installer. If you have put files in it, then take them out and put them in your real Desktop.

You have moved all the folders in your home folder to the top level of your hard drive.

Move them back, and restart the computer, and all will be as before.
