Hello folks,

I am about to image machines from my OSX server to a bunch of laptops. I have my OD configured for the students to login. However, I want to name these machines to join OD. It is going to be a little hard to do. Is there a way thru OD to name machines and join the domain, or am I going to have to do them one at a time and manually join them to the domain?

You don't need to join any kind of Domain with Open Directory - it sounds like you're thinking of Active Directory. You can do something called "Authenticated Binding" with Open Directory, but it's optional.

If you advertise your Open Directory Master via DHCP (and you have your master client image setup to get Directory Services information from DHCP in Directory Access), you can enter the machines in a Computer List via Workgroup Manager and they'll name themselves according to the name you set the first time they boot up.
