Hi there all.

I have question that will hopefully solve a problem. I have an OS X Server that I need to connect to with ARD. It is behind a firewall router. ARD does not seem to want to connect to hit.

The Router log is giving me info that it is actually getting there just not getting to the server.

I have set up ports 3283, 5900, 5988, I have set up port 22 as well. I can ssh into the machine via terminal and I can can connect to a network share that I set up via afp. The only thing I can't do is get ARD to connect.

I am 99% sure I enabled ARD access before I left the site, but there is a small chance I did not.

Is there any way for me to check and enable or disable ARD via terminal? If it is actaully enabled any one have any ideas.

The router that is being used is a Netgear DG834N.

Thanks
Alexis

Have you tried running top after sshing in? I think I see a few processes on my machine that look like remote desktop related stuff.

Did you enable ARD users on the Mac Server? To enable ARD users; System Preferences >> Sharing >> Apple Remote Desktop >> Access Privileges... Then select the user(s) and their privileges.

Word of caution -- Make absolutely sure you have a strong password on all administrator accounts, and if possible only Remote into a "Standard" privileged user account. This will protect your server from hackers port scanning that know that TCP 3283 is ARD.

Also, in your router double check your port triggering/forwarding settings. For all requests on 3283 and 5900 need to be forwarded to your servers static LAN IP.
