Good afternoon, I have recently got an imac G4 which is running OS X 10.1.something but it keeps freezing. I would like to try and upgrade the operating system to see if this helps. I have got Panther on disk. Will this work? Will I be able to put the disc straight in and will it load staight up or will I have to do something else? Sorry, but I have never done anything like this before so any help would be greatly appreciated.

As long as the machine meets the 10.3 system requirements, you should have no trouble popping the disc in and running the installer. Are you going to do an upgrade or erase and install?

The help section of your operating system should give you a clear step-by-step guide on how to upgrade.

If this doesn't satisfy you, you can go to the apple website (usually you will find some links in the search results of your help section). There you can also see the system requirements for Panther.

Just put the disk in the drive - if it won't install on that machine, it will tell you.
