Ever since I got my new iMac I noticed that the 'end' button on the keyboard never works. It doesnt seem to matter what application I'm in, bit when I'm typing it never works. I'm new to the Mac OS so its possible this is just a newbie issue, but it doesnt work on any app and I'm pretty sure its not the hardware. What gives?

It works, but does not do what you might expect. The end-button scrolls to the bottom of the document, the home button scrolls to the top of the document. The caret position doesn't change.

To put the caret at the end of the line, press command-right arrow.

double command is an excellent extension that will provide for some key alterations. It's generally for using a PC keyboard on a Mac, but it should allow you to mess around with a Mac Keyboard too.

I have to say that this was one of the hardest issues for me when I started using Macs (rather recently). I got used to Home and End moving the cursor position to the beginning or end of whatever was on the screen, and the Mac paradigm being so different has been a major stumbling point for me. To make it worse, my first "very own" Mac is a MacBook Pro, so it has a laptop keyboard and that changes a LOT; the arrow keys are also the home/end/page up/page down keys and keeping straight what each one does with and without the Fn key got to be pretty rough!
