I just bought Logic Studio 8 and decided I would reinstall Tiger to wipe my HD before installing it and encountered a SERIOUS problem.

I put the Tiger disc in the drive, and clicked Install Tiger. The computer restarted, but when it did, after the grey screen with the apple logo, it went to a black screen with a bunch of weird numbers and writing and things like that. I kept seeing the word Kernel, and noticed at the very bottom it said "Panic: We are hanging here"

Behind all of this is a grey part of the screen with the power on/off button icon telling me I need to restart my computer, but when I do, it keeps going back to the same screen. I tried hitting random keys but that just made the computer start making a lud noise like it was going to explode or something. The Tiger disc is still in the drive BTW.

It is a dualcore 2GHz powermac G5 if that matters.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Restart the machine, hold down the "alt" (Option) key and select to boot from the internal drive again.

Eject the disk - I suspect it's either damaged, or older than your computer. (Machines can only be booted by the system version they came with or later.)

Wiping your hard drive is completely unnecessary for installing Logic Studio, though.

It's actually completely unnecessary in general on the Mac - in studio use or otherwise.

If you want a fresh system, use the "Archive and Install" option.

At the moment, I probably just wouldn't bother and go directly to Leopard after a couple of weeks'/months' wait.

Are you using an older retail copy of Tiger or the disc that came with your PowerMac? If it's the original retail DVD, which is 10.4.0, then it won't work. Your PowerMac requires a newer version of Tiger.
