i have 4 computers and the highest os i have on any of them is 10.3.9. don't have any pressing need to upgrade to tiger now but am i likely to in the future? i only ask because tiger will soon be off the market. if i bought it it would probably just sit in a box somewhere until the time i need it. 10.5 is out of the question since none of my machines meet the minimum system requirements.

You should be able to buy Tiger used later one (for a lot less, I might add). So just wait.

just a quick follow up. is it likely years down the road that firefox, youtube, or a printer might require 10.4? i'm perfectly satisfied with all the other software i have and unless i have to i see no reason to have to upgrade the ram on all these machines.

Yes, of course, that may happen. Although it certainly isn't true of all hardware: Postscript printers pretty much work with any version of OS X. I'm sure there'll be legacy versions around for some time.

But honestly: if you really, really have no complaints, I wouldn't upgrade (unless you really want some of the functions).

thanks mr moderator. i'll hold off. hell, i've too much extra stuff around i've bought. (an extra original wireless card, an extra original wireless keyboard still in the box for the number pad thing, and 2 extra 60gb ipod photos in excellent condition for the firewire snyc.) i just like the style of these older computers and my laptops sit cool in the lap.
