I want to use Disk Utility to partition my hard drive so I can dual boot OS X / YDL, if I use it, will I have to reinstall OS X, or will OS X stay installed on my "old" partition and just add a new one?

Just asking cuz Apple was a little vague...

disk utility doesn't allow you to dynamically repartition, so you will lose everything on your OS X partition.

Boot Camp dynamically repartitions for Windows (NTFS or FAT32). I have no idea if that's an option with YDL, or if a Mac would accept it.

Disk Utility in Leopard does dynamic repartitioning. Tiger's Disk Utility does not. However, diskutil (via Terminal) in Tiger does, which is what the Boot Camp Utility is using.

Just use BootCamp to set it up for you and reformat the partition to Journaled HFS+. No need to mess around with terminal

Ah. Of course not. Sorry about that

Here's a tutorial that explains how to do it with diskutil:
