Hello all.

I personally have not upgraded yet, but have been contacted by somone that has and here is their predicament.

They were told to NOT do an archive and install by apple, this from what I understand deletes all the files that were on the computer previously. Is it possible to recover them at all? For example, things like photos in iPhoto and iTunes songs? Can I install iPhoto from the 10.4 discs that came with the computer when new, and if I can will I be able to recover the photos? I know how to move the songs back from the iPod if I have to, so dont really need help with that.

Thanks.

A Archive and Install will not erase a persons data. You might have done a achieve and install and uncheck the preserve user data and network settings which would have erased the data. Or you might have done a erase and install.

Maybe if you actually asked a specific question people could respond to you would get more input. I read your post several times and still have no idea what you are asking.

Is this your question?

Is it possible to recover them at all? For example, things like photos in iPhoto and iTunes songs? Can I install iPhoto from the 10.4 discs that came with the computer when new, and if I can will I be able to recover the photos?
The answer is: if this person deleted them (photos and music) then they cannot recover them. For example, if they did an Archive and Install and did NOT selected "Preserve User Settings", then only the previous SYSTEM gets archived, not the user folder. Installing iPhoto from 10.4 discs won't make the photos in their library magically reappear. They are gone, never to return, unless they made a backup. They do have a backup right?

That looks like a specific question to me...
