Ok, question for you guys: I got my leopard up-to-date DVD in the mail today, and intended to do a fresh install tonight, as I've already backed up everything I want to save to a different drive.

While installing leopard, I did not click the "customize" button because I thought it was just for the language/printer driver stuff (which in hindsight I should have clicked on to save space on my macbook) but I just clicked continue and leopard install (upgrade) began. There was no way to cancel, as it warned that if you do your computer may not start up.

Did I need to click customize to get a fresh install? Or is that just not included in the up-to-date, it only upgrades your existing system with no other options? Can anyone confirm this for me.

I would hate to reinstall 10.4 (a requirement of this disc) and then 10.5 after that, just to find out that I never had a fresh install option available in the first place.

Thanks,

nodnarb

If you did a fresh install, you will know because all your files will be gone. If they aren't, then it's time to install Tiger

You can try reinstalling with Leopard already on it. Hopefully, they designed it to be smart enough to look for Tiger or Leopard. If it doesn't let you, then put Tiger back on it.

When you get to the part where you choose which disk to install onto, click the Options button. That will give the choice of the type of install. Then when you get to the install screen, you can click the Customize button to deselect printers, languages, etc.

No, no...I know I didn't do a fresh install, it was just an upgrade.

I was asking for verification that the up-to-date DVD can even to a fresh install, or if it's only option is to upgrade.

I'd like to know how the reinstall goes.

As far as I know, the up-to-date disks are for upgrade only. I assume they have the archive&install option, but I wonder if an existing Leopard installation will satisfy them, or if you need an existing Tiger/previous install.

The up-to-date worked fine with a fresh install. Just had to click options like Art was saying, and it's right there Erase & Install. And I didn't even have to install tiger again!

This honestly feels way quicker than when I did the upgrade, and I mean a huge difference... when I upgraded I could tell something was wrong because I was getting the beachball in system preferences and other things already, so this fresh one is feeling smooth.

I missed that too - I meant to do an archive and install, but could not find it. In the end, I'm really happy with my upgrade install - no problems at all.
