I just got my 10.5 from amazon. Id like to archive it to a second DVD and use that one on install etc so that the original is not damaged.

Ive done this w the other 10's

the DVD is 7.11 GB under 'get info' when I select all to put into a folder and burn w toast it only copies 1.25 GB

this may be to prevent free distributions but not in my case.

is there a way to do this? again this I feel is 'fair use' and not some other purpose!

thanks

To clone complete disks/discs one uses Disk Utility, not the Finder.

Also note that it has a Windows partition for installing Boot Camp drivers, you might want to keep that, too.

I made a disk image w toast. its "Mac OS X Install DVD.toast"

Im assuming this is the same as Disk Utility would make?

now to burn I need some DL media. I don't use DL. would I get DL "+" or DL "-"?

many thanks and quick too!

Disk Utility would make a .cdr (basically the same as .iso), its a standard format for disk images, I would try that over toast.
Signature depreciated.

How did you do it with the other 10's, because what you're trying there *most certainly* hasn't worked for about 8 years...?

previous 10's as far as I recall were not DL.

just copied them w toast. am in the process now of 'burning' a DL from the toast image.

will let you know if it works.

then will try the Disk Utility

thanks

I don't think he'd want to make the Leopard DVD into an ISO. It isn't an ISO, ISO disks are limited in what characters can be used for filenames, and are probably not bootable on the Mac.

just to report:

the toast images that were burned on to DL media do not work:

they are seen on insert to the iMac, but on reboot the machine just reboots over and over after the mac apple is seen.

Ill try using disk utility as suggested.

the copies were verified w toast too.

cheers

There were two or three other threads on this topic with detailed instructions. I guess we need a sticky.
