Depends on what it's a .cdr of. If it's a .cdr of an OS X install disc, it will boot whatever Mac the original supports.

Thanks Art Vandelay. Yes, it is a .cdr of an OS X install disc. I 'have' to give a copy to someone 'but' I don't want it to look 'genuine', mostly to prevent him for getting 'unfair' advantage of it (playing as borrower to everyone else…).

So far I understand all it takes to burn it is:
- double clic on it (the .cdr file) to mount the Install Disk image
- launch Disk Utility
- select the .cdr file I want to burn from Disk Utility left margin and finally clic the Burn icon

Truth be told I don't use Disk Utility to burn anything but thats eems the way to do it.

That will work but it's not necessary to mount it first. Simply open Disk Utility and click the Burn icon in the toolbar. Browse to the .cdr and away you go.
