Im getting a new 1 TB HD thats faster than my 500GB in my MP.

Id like to transition to 10.5 on the TB but take all the stuff from the 500 there 'automatically".

hows best to do this? I know clean install is said to be best, but then I have to re add my gazillion apps and all there files here and there.

will 10.5 do an archive and install on the TB from the 500?

Id keep the 10.4 for a while then clean it off. carbon copy cloner has worked for me in the past but ive had problems sometimes w parts of a HD that the OS won't let me copy. this is a one user MP will same names and passwords

cheers and many thanks

Several options:
• use DiskUtility to clone onto your new disk and then do a Leopard upgrade (will retain settings, files, and apps)
• use DiskUtility to clone onto your new disk and then do a Leopard archive & install (can retain settings, files, and apps)
• do a fresh Leopard install onto the new disk and then use Migration Assistant to copy over your documents, apps, and/or settings (can retain settings, files, and apps)
• do a fresh Leopard install onto the new disk and then copy stuff over manually

Personally, I like being lazy so I'd go with no. 1 or no. 3.

If you current installation is a mess though, going with no. 2 is probably safest.

on #2: after the archive and install do I then **delete** the folder thats the archive? what in the archive that **important** to keep?

in the end, using #2, Im getting 10.5 will all my apps, files, settings on the new TB?

cheers and thanks

Your old /System and /Library plus some other stuff. Once you're satisfied with your new installation and you're sure you have migrated everything you need, you can delete the Previous System folder.

in the end, using #2, Im getting 10.5 will all my apps, files, settings on the new TB?
Yes. You can set A&I options so that you take over your user account (with your settings and documents) as well as network settings, apps, etc.

I would suggest doing that.
