According to top I have a process called "mds" that is averaging 90% cpu time.

Does anybody know what this process is?

So I take it it's indexing my computer? I've got over 1.5 terabytes worth of data on this thing... I'm guessing just let it run over night?

Yes, unless there are errors that are causing it to crash and restart.

I had that in Tiger, the Console showed me that the indexing process was crashing due to a corrupt font, bounced back, crashed and so on. Perhaps this is handled better in 10.5.

Well my indexing seems to have finished now... hopefully there were no problems... but that's a lot of data not to have one single problem.
