in tiger it was /private/var/tmp/folders.501
if you loaded youtube videos, they got cached here. now it seems like apple changed this. any ideas?

Yeah, Apple changed a whole bunch of those hidden locations for some reason.

An AppleScript of "return path to temporary items" returns /private/var/folders/[seemingly random dir]/[definitely random dir]/TemporaryItems

You can make an AppleScript that opens it for you.

Open in Script Editor

Save that in your User scripts folder (~/Library/Scripts) and run it from the Script menuextra.
