will leopard improve the power of the quad in a mac pro?
because i realised the processors are neva at maximum power. they never go beyond 25% and i dont see the point in having that much power when it aint using it.
another thing will vista work with the quad through boot camp?

Quad CPUs won't magically shoot to 100% usage if you don't throw anything at it. If you don't need a Quad CPU machine why did you buy one?

If you want all for of your CPUs to max out, run some video encoding app on your machine.

Mac OS X has always been excellent at using each CPU or CPU-core efficiently but if you only run a couple basic apps at a time, you'll never get all four of your CPUs to go beyond 25% usage. And if you meant that Leopard itself should constantly be using most of the CPU resources, that would be crazy. Leopard will use whatever CPU it needs when it needs it. But in general, it won't ever max out four 2.0GHz+ CPUs because nothing that it does would require so much horsepower...especially considering all of the eyecandy is redirected to your GPU.

yeah i get what you mean. But as i was sayin would vista use quad core? or even XP? if xp would work properly withought problems i might as well get XP cheap.
Because i want to get either vista or xp but i want it to work properly with the quad

IIRC, they both should work well with a quad-core.

In order to really use a quad processor machine you need either a) programs written to use 4 proccessors or b) four programs all running at once using a lot of CPU.
8 Core 2.8 ghz Mac Pro/GF8800/2 23" Cinema Displays, 3.06 ghz Macbook Pro

Your question is a bit odd. The operating system is sufficiently efficient that all four
cpus don't have to hit 100% unless you're actually giving them a task to do.

Seti at Home (BOINC) would cause them to be hit pretty high, video encoding would
hit them pretty high as well as audio processing with effects or virtual synthesizers.

If you aren't running a processor intensive application the percentages are much less
and indeed you WANT them to do that, if they were pegged 100% just at idle that would
be a sign of a very inefficient operating system.

How much more computing horsepower do you want to have waiting for you?

It's fairly nice to know, IMHO, that your machine is WAY FASTER than you need, meaning it'll be more than enough for what you're likely to do for some years to come.

Throw some work at it, man!

Take up video editing, or audio production!
