Could be the Apple Partition Map the culprit for an external USB2 hard disk to be too slow booting the Mac? I understand a FireWire 400 d2 is faster than the USB2 LaCie LEGO when it comes to move-read-write a bunch of tiny files (like when booting the OS) but I guess the external hard disk aimed to boot an intel Mac would have a GUID Partition Table instead of the APM… am I right?

In a nutshell, when booting a Mac from…

LaCie d2 FireWire (APM) attached to a MDD --> speedy
LaCie LEGO USB2 (APM) attached to a 24" intel iMac --> slow

? It's far more likely because the LEGO drive is connected via USB and the d2 is via FireWire, rather than the partition scheme.

Sure FireWire 400 is way speedier than USB2, but I think 'this' USB2 speed is ridiculous so to speak… actually I don't know how much booting from an Apple Partition Map matters when it comes to intel Macs though… I mean, if that is all USB2 is capable of… well, what a joke.
