Is there a way to undo an update? Safari 3 is driving me nuts. I'm trying to be Apple loyal but it looks like I'm going to be dragging Firefox out of the shed if I can't get Safari 3 to work correctly.

Since the update Safari does not load pages when typed into the address bar.

ie. type "fourms.macnn.com" into the address bar then hit enter. It just sits there not doing anything. The same goes for the Google search too.

No, the only option is to archive and install.

You need to remove or update any outdated browser plug-ins/add ons.

~/Library/InputManagers
/Library/InputManagers

Visit these two folders and trash everything that's inside.

Fixed...

After further investigation I found Sogudi is not at all compatible with Safari 3. After uninstall everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help!

I have 10.4.11 installed with the new version of Safari and my InputManagers work fine.

He might just need to upgrade them.

FYI---- the 10.4.11 upgrade renders PithHelmet inoperable in the fresh version of Safari 3.0.4 it installs. No ad and banner blocking for now. This is odd, because PH was just updated a few days ago ( v.2.7) , and a beta for Leopard is out and working. But the ".11" upgrade won't allow PH 2.6.7 or 2.7 to load or even install in Safari 3...which more weirdly appears to be the same Safari version as before...3.0.4

It's broken because of SIMBL, whatever that is.....

The developer is aware of Pith Helmet being broken , but he's on walkabout for a while.

DewD try SafariBlock. It works in 10.4 and 10.5 and it's free to boot.

It seems pretty useless. I blocked an image, reloaded the page and low and behold there was a different ad image there. It blocks by the images link address. Doesn't seem too useful at all. PithHelmet is far more advanced than safariblock.

*pssst* it can block frames too.

Not only that, you don't simply block the address of ONE image. You use wild-cards to block EVERY ad from that site.

I've had SafariBlock block ads to sites I've never been to before doing it that way.

I did not need to do that. Safari 3 simply refused to use the one add-on I had installed. I removed it later.

Make sure the permissions are set correctly for that folder.

In the Terminal, type

sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/InputManagers

Put in your password. Then restart Safari.

And if that don't work

sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/InputManagers/nameofpluginhere
