I ran the software update and restarted but now it is stuck in the startup. (Apple logo with spinning wheel). It's been an hour now.

What do I do?

Thanks!

I tried a hard reboot but it still gets stuck in the boot screen.

Anyone?

Thanks!

Reinstall, apply combo updater. That's the standard recommendation.

Not sure what's causing it but I had a similar situation after the update where my system booted to the gray apple and remained there for several minutes then spontaneously rebooted... after that reboot the system then booted up correctly. Perhaps this is the same bug.

I'm having the same problem. I'm going to apply the 10.5.1 updater that I just downloaded and see if that works. I did the update thru Software Update, this one I downloaded from Apple.

Well, didn't work. I ready to format and reinstall. I'd try an Archive and Install, but I can't get the iMac to boot from my Leopard drop-in DVD.

Okay, so I first tried booting into Safe mode but it wouldn't work. I then ran the disk utility, repaired permissions, and then checked the disk but everything was okay according to the diagnose.

So I really only had two options: Archive Install or Restore with Time Machine. Since I've been fascinated with Time Machine I decided to go that route and it worked like a charm. It's now back to normal. I still have to run the update again but I'm a bit leery.

When I setup Time Machine I was thinking of excluding the System files and only do my Home folder. I am now happy I never did that. Boy, I didn't know I would have use of Time Machine so soon but am really happy it was an option.

Thanks for your suggestions!
