Anyone know what in Leopard triggers bzip2 to start running in the background? I noticed it at first the other day when my CPU usage was at 100%. Terminal showed "bzip2" as the culprit. I have Time Machine turned off so I do not believe it's part of that but I could be wrong. Either way it's back at 100% again now and I had all applications closed at the time it started. Ideas?

bzip is a compression program. Are you running any type of server? Could be compressing log files.

I noticed the exact same thing on my machine. This is a guess, but maybe it is compressing system log files?

There is a daily process that analyzes and compresses log files. I'm @work right now so I can't give you the specifics, but you can disable it and replace it with a simpler script to just delete the old logs instead of analyzing and compressing them.
