I tried loading Leopard onto my macbook pro today but it seemed to be stuck (disc wasn't spinning, stuck at 5hours 41 minutes for over 30 minutes), so I quit the update and restarted.
But now my computer won't boot up! It goes to the grey initial screen with the apple logo for a few seconds, then automatically restarts and does the same thing, then restarts...
How do I load up from the discs? I have my original start up discs that came with my macbook pro as well as the new leopard disc!
HELP Please!!

Okay, I managed to install Leopard by holding down the "C" key while restarting. At the end of the installation, it said that it was successful and then restarted. But now, it's stuck on the inital grey start up screen with the apple logo in the middle. How long does this take??? I left it for over 25 minutes now but nothing happened so I restarted and still the same thing!

try resetting PRAM and then reinstalling (archive-install)

Thanks for the advice.
I've reset the PRAM but still no go. I can load up the Leopard update dvd (by holding down "c" when restarting) and I've used disk utility and my harddrive seems okay.
I can't however re-install/update leopard as I don't have enough room anymore on my harddrive (only have 5 gigs remaining after the initial update/install).
Can I erase selected files from my harddrive without erasing my whole harddrive (as I don't have it backed up ) using disk utility?
If I can make a bit more room, then I can try reinstalling leopard!

not with disk utility -- not for single files or folders

you could put your mac into firewire target disk mode and use another Mac + firewire cable to select and delete individual files and folders.

you could also install Leopard on an external volume, boot from it, and then clean up your internal volume.

Oaky, I've booted up into the leopard installer mode and have my external harddrive hooked up as well (but it's brand new).
When I go to boot leopard onto the external harddrive, it says to repartition the harddrive using disk utility using "RUID partition table" but when I go to disk utility, I don't know how to do this...??

Thanks Cold Warrior! I installed Leopard onto my external harddrive, copied all my files from my internal hard drive to my external, then erased some files from the internal.
I re-installed leopard with archive and install and after what seemed like forever, it worked!

Phew! Thanks again!
