I had no problem with Time Machine reusing a firewire external backup disk on my Intel laptop, but trying the same thing on my office power pc iMac produced a backup failure error message after about 5 gb.

I read the Apple tech note on this about partitioning, but cannot unmount the external drive to erase and repartition. It says drive is in use.
