I am wanting to create a new user account and transfer all the data from the old account. I really don't want to do a full back up over the network of my macbook in order to do the migration assistant, so I am wondering if you can migrate a user account on a single machine. My reason is that I want the same named user account on both my machines on my network. When I set up my user account on my laptop, I chose a different user name. I have read some threads on changing my short name, but I feel that it may be easier to just migrate the data from the one user to the new one. It may keep permissions in line as well. Any suggestions?

I would just replace all the folders in the new user account you just created with all the folders from the user account you want to duplicate. That should work just fine.
